2) Drawstrings- particularly on the waist or neck are a serious strangulation hazard. They can easily tangle around furniture or on playground equipment. Avoid drawstrings altogether. If you receive such an item as a gift, pull it out entirely before dressing your baby.

3) Avoid fancy embroidery pleats, tulle and ruching on the chest or around the collar, at least for the first year. All of these techniques can give your baby a serious rash.

4) Wash before wearing- all new clothing is treated with chemicals to crisp up the material. You must wash everything new before dressing your baby in it.
